Abstract

The performance of twenty pastures grown on solodised solonetz soil at Queensland Agricultural College was assessed for five years.
Foliage cover and yield of top growth of the pastures was measured on eight occasions. Contribution of all pasture constituents to this yield was also assessed at these times.
The pastures showed what appears to be a characteristic pattern of establishment and stabilisation in relation to their competitors, both native and introduced.
The highest performing sown grasses were the stoloniferous cultivars pangola and kikuyu and the caespitose cultivars Petrie green panic and Gatton panic.
