Abstract

Glabrous stem is an uncommon trait in Aeschynomene americana. To investigate the inheritance of this character, a glabrous line was crossed with 2 lines having pubescent stems. Analysis of the F2 and backcross generations suggested that the glabrous/pubescent character was controlled at 1 locus with 2 alleles. The allele for glabrousness was completely dominant over the recessive allele for pubescence. Phenotypes were easily distinguished in seedlings.
