Tropical Grasslands (1989) Volume 23, 250253 DAMPING-OFF OF STYLOSANTHES GUIANENSIS BY PYTHIUM IRREGULARE A.B. GOULD1 and R.M. SONODA 2
1University of Florida, Agricultural Research and Education Center, Rt. 4, Box 4092, Monticello, FL 32344, USA. Abstract Pythium irregulare Buisman was isolated from Stylosanthes guianensis seedlings showing symptoms of post-emergence damping-off in the greenhouse. Stylosanthes guinanenis seedlings inoculated with P. irregulare under aseptic conditions displayed tissue-browning, loss of turgor and tissue collapse. Seed treated with metalaxyl prior to planting in artificially infested soil had significantly less seedling losses to postemergence damping-off than untreated seed or seed treated with captan. |
