Atra paspalum
(Paspalum atratum)

A relation of plicatulum, Atra paspalum cv. Hi-gane is a new grass which might have application for seasonally waterlogged soils.

Atra is an erect rhizomatous perennial with a dense fibrous root system, and with good seed production. It can compete with bahia grass and coastal bermudagrass in waterlogged conditions, and can produce good weight gains in cattle when fertilised with nitrogen.

It is considered a valuable grass for cut and carry in humid tropical regions.
