Ian Partridge was born in Devon, England in 1943 and studied Agricultural Science at Reading University, before completing a Diploma in Tropical Agriculture at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. He worked as an agricultural officer in Kenya researching high altitude pastures from 1965 to 1968. In 1969, he went to Fiji and worked on a research and development program on hill pastures on the island of Viti Levu until 1983. Ian migrated to Australia in 1983, and joined the Department of Primary Industries in the state of Queensland. He was a pasture extension officer based at Bundaberg and Gayndah in south-east Queensland for seven years, until he moved to Toowoomba to become an Information Officer specialising in books on native and sown pastures. Ian has acted as a pasture and training consultant in the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Vietnam and Indonesia. He was Newsletter Editor for the Tropical Grassland Society of Australia from 1988 until the close of the Society in 2010, and became A Fellow of the Society in 2001.
